Wellbeing
Learning occurs when we are in flow – when the conditions for learning allow you to become fully immersed and engaged in what you are doing. Healthy, happy children who are socially connected and have developed emotional literacy are able to find flow in learning and sustain positive relationships more readily. Each day we support our children to connect through play, collaboration and joyful experiences.
Our culture authentically builds wellbeing
Our daily approach to balancing wellbeing can be heard in our language, seen in our actions and felt through our interactions at Wollert. With carefully framed and consistent language in daily interactions, we model and teach our children self-awareness and an understanding of the feelings of self and others. We make a deliberate choice to weave social and emotional learning opportunities into our teaching rather than using only stand alone lessons, allowing our children to make connections organically between their learning and their wellbeing.
Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEW)
Providing a safe, respectful and nurturing place for children to develop their understanding and value of themselves is most important to us at Wollert. Each child is unique in character and disposition, something we welcome and honour.
Developing skills and competencies that will be equally as important in adulthood as in childhood is important to us. We support our children to grow developmentally in the following personal competencies:
- Emotional Intelligence
- Growth Mindset
- Independent Learning
- Critical Thinking
- Self-Awareness
- Self-Expression
Relationships
and Connection
‘If some students are unresponsive, maybe you can’t teach them yet, but you can love them. And if you love them today, maybe you can teach them tomorrow.’
Creating authentic, warm relationships that build a strong sense of connection in our school sits at the heart of all we do.
Our Restorative Approach focuses on what matters:
Our relationships and respect for each other is deepened through our heavy focus on what we value rather than rules, teaching students how to solve problems and importantly, make things right when they mess up. We restore our relationships in a positive way, building self-esteem, confidence and resilience in all.
SWPBS frames our consistency in approach
As a School Wide Positive Behaviour School (SWPBS), we commit to a framework that establishes strong routines, processes and positive behaviours that guide our students and staff to be the best they can be through a supportive, orderly and predictable environment.
